“Nova” means “new” in Latin. Sweet Nova is all about pushing the boundaries of sweet treats and healthy snacking.
The short answer...It’s a nutrient-rich, plant-based smoothie churned into an ice cream form (kinda like a smoothie bowl)! Unlike ice cream, our superfood nice creams are free of dairy, refined sugars and processed gums. The nerdier, longer answer...The term “Nice cream” was first used on Pinterest, and it refers to an ice cream-like treat made by blending frozen bananas. Bananas are naturally high in pectin, a form of starch, which gives the fruit a soft, creamy texture and allows it to imitate an ice cream consistency when frozen and blended. We’ve taken our nice creams to the next level by adding plant-based superfoods that are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, heart-healthy fats, and antioxidants. You can enjoy our nice creams for breakfast, snack, or dessert -- they are made to nourish you whenever you need it!
Superfoods are foods that are particularly nutrient-dense, and are therefore efficient sources of fuel and nourishment for your body. These powerhouse foods offer a variety of vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and heart-healthy fats. Some of the superfoods you’ll find in our nice creams: blueberries - a great source of antioxidants, which help in disease prevention; kale - high in Vitamin A, which is great for teeth, bone, and skin health; chia Seeds - a source of all nine amino acids (protein) and lots of fiber too; sunflower seed butter - rich in magnesium, a mineral that helps reduce stress and improve sleep; and hemp seed hearts - a protein powerhouse with a light, nutty flavor.

No! This was a really important part of our recipe development. Our nice creams are 100% free of refined sugar and contain LESS SUGAR THAN AN APPLE in the full 5 oz container. Most of our product’s sweetness comes from bananas, dates and other fruits. Our Sunflower Cacao Protein has no added sugars at all, while the Pitaya Blueberry Antioxidants and Matcha Kale Energy have a touch of maple syrup to enhance their flavors. We searched far and wide for the right, whole sweetener (beyond just dates). We chose not to use Erythritol or Stevia because of their aftertaste and the evidence showing that they interfere with digestion. Cane sugar and Coconut sugar are refined so they were a no-go. Maple syrup is technically an added sugar, but it’s one of the lowest FODMAP sweeteners. Along with its light sweetness, maple syrup is unrefined, plant-based and contains antioxidants and minerals like zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium (friendly reminder...honey is not plant-based!).
We follow the guidelines of the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 to buy organic when it matters. This means that we prioritize buying organic ingredients where chemical fertilizer and pesticide residues aren’t found even after washing. Thicker skinned, above-ground fruits and vegetables (like pineapple) generally have no pesticide residue, so we buy these ingredients conventionally and pass the savings onto you. Having a low environmental footprint is something that we keep in mind always and will strive to minimize as we scale our production.
All of our flavors are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan (aka plant-based), and Paleo. Only our Sunflower Cacao Protein flavor is Whole 30 friendly (the other flavors contain maple syrup).
Our products may contain traces of tree nuts, peanuts and/or soy, though they are not ingredients in any of our nice creams.
We set out to make Sweet Nova one of the most nutritionally balanced snacks out there. So yes, it’s a great kid-friendly snack (and a fantastic way to sneak in a serving of fruits and vegetables!). Please check for any allergens first, though.
Yes. We worked with Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Tanya Freirich to develop recipes that have maximum nutrition, creating a delicious snack that’s actually good for you.
Sweet Nova is like a smoothie in ice cream form. It’s creamy, not-too-sweet, and tastes like a refreshing, health-boosting smoothie.
A lot like a dense ice cream or sorbet. Our Sunflower Cacao Protein has cacao nibs that add a bit of crunch.
Unlike juicing, in which ingredients are strained, our processing preserves all of the natural fiber of our ingredients. We blend and churn whole ingredients into the final product. Fiber is an important part of the human diet as it keeps you full, improves digestion, lowers cholesterol levels, and helps control blood sugar. If you’re juice cleansing (we don’t love juice cleanses, but totally get that sometimes you need a reset), then Sweet Nova could be a perfect indulgent complement to that!
Sweet Nova superfood nice creams will store safely in your freezer for one year.
Sweet Nova’s nice creams are best left out in room temperature for 5-10 minutes before spooning. If you don’t have 5 minutes, then pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds and you’re good to go!
Anytime! Because Sweet Nova is made entirely of superfoods and has no refined sugars or additives, your superfood nice cream is not limited to being a dessert. Some of our favorite times to grab a Sweet Nova are breakfast (grab-and-go on the train works great), or a mid-afternoon office snack. Of course, you can also substitute Sweet Nova for an after dinner ice cream or another indulgent treat.
